Hello, I've attached a computer rendering of the project i'm proposing, a rainwater collection system/functional sculpture.
I used to reside on 30th Drive and would visit Two Coves often as well as the other parks in the area. I recently moved but not too far away
because I wanted to stay in touch with the community in that part of Astoria. I work for Socrates sculpture park, i'm one of the care takers there,
and I've been employed there for just over a year. I'm also currently building a sculpture for the park which will open in September of this year.
The sculpture for Socrates is being built with found objects that I've found in and around Hallets Cove. For the Two Coves Community Garden
i'm proposing a rainwater collection system that will be a sculpture but also have functions. It's purpose is to collect rainwater that can be used in the
gardens. The structure will also provide a bit of shade so people can sit underneath them to rest, cool off, and relax. Most, if not all the material used
will be found or recycled from Build it Green NYC. The frame of the sculpture abstractly represents the human figure, which is holding the rainwater
collector above the head. The sculpture's together represent a group effort that is reaching toward common goals we all share.
